In case you haven’t heard, while the Xobni team has been working hard on improving performance, the Microsoft Outlook team itself has been focused on performance. They have come up with a hotfix that improves Outlook’s performance, especially under the stress of large PST files. This hotfix will be shipped as part of Office 2007 Service Pack 2 next month, but if you want it now, you can get it here:

We love seeing this kind of improvement come out of Redmond. Microsoft Outlook product manager, and friend of Xobni, Dev Balasubramanian has written about their hotfix release in this blog post.
Most of the team here at Xobni has installed the hotfix and we are happy with the performance improvements. Some users have reported a 15-60 min Outlook startup after first installing this hotfix as it reconfigures your PSTs, but nobody here at Xobni has experienced any issues.
We just wanted to share this tasty snack with you as our goal at Xobni is to share email happiness with our users ever chance we get.
Has anyone experienced Outlook CPU spikes when composing a message after installing this update?
Good news, any idea if a similar hotfix is planned for Outlook 2003 ?
I have, in fact, with Xobni turned on and the hotfix, I’m seeing studdering when composing a new message… I had to turn Xobni off.
I uninstalled the hotfix and the stuttering went away.
